Husky Road Trip Continues In Florida
February 11, 2020 | Softball
SEATTLE - The #1 Washington Huskies will continue their road trip in Florida with seven games this week. The Huskies begin with a midweek contest against the UCF Knights in Orlando on Wednesday. After that, Washington heads to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Elite Invitational, where it will play six games, including its first of two games against the U.S. National Team this season.
Washington began 2020 with a perfect weekend, going 5-0 at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta. The Huskies scored in double digits three times in those five games and averaged 8.2 runs per game on the weekend. 14 of the 17 Huskies to receive at least one at-bat recorded a hit, led by Sis Bates' ten hits in 16 at-bats.
This will be Washington's first-ever trip to Orlando. Washington has played UCF seven times in school history and is 5-2 in those games, including a win last year at the Puerto Vallarta Collegiate Challenge. Washington will also face Alabama, Florida State, Liberty, South Carolina, and Texas Tech at the Clearwater Elite Invitational. The Huskies hold a 34-17 combined record against those five teams. Since the beginning of the 2017 season, Washington is 8-2 against that competition.

STARTING STRONG | |
| Washington began the year 5-0, winning every game at the Buzz Classic. It is the eighth time in Heather Tarr's 16 years as head coach that the Husky have started at least 5-0. Over the last three seasons, Washington's record in the month of February is 37-1. The only team to beat the Huskies in that time was Notre Dame, who won 3-2 via the international tiebreaker at the 2019 Puerto Vallarta Collegiate Challenge. In Coach Tarr's career, Washington is 447-100 (.817) against non-conference opposition. 65 of those losses have been to ranked teams and 33 have come in the postseason. | ||

BATES BATS | |
| Since the beginning of the 2019 postseason, Sis Bates has hit .500 (23x46) with 15 runs in 14 games. She has at least one hit in all but one game since then and has multiple hits in eight. This year, Bates has started with ten hits in her first five games. Only nine times in Washington history has a player had double-digit hits in the first five games of the season: Bates has done so in each of the last three seasons. Shelley Brown (1996 and 1997) is the only other Husky to do so multiple times. Kirstyn Thomas (2018) is the only one to record more hits in the first five games. | ||

PLAIN PITCHING | |
| Gabbie Plain earned the win in three of Washington's five games last weekend, giving her 49 wins on her career. One more win would make her the 12th Husky ever to win 50 games in their career. Plain has earned those 49 wins in just 73 appearances. Currently, the fastest Husky ever to 50 wins is Eve Gaw, who reached that mark in 75 appearances. Taran Alvelo (77 appearances) is the only other Husky to do so in fewer than 80 appearances | ||

HOMER HAPPY | |
| Morganne Flores' homer at the Buzz Classic made her the fifth Husky ever with 45 or more in their careers. Since going 13 games without a home run early in 2019, Flores has 22 homers in 45 games, good for one every 5.9 at-bats. That mark would have led the nation last season by more than a tenth of a home run per game. | ||
