Washington Takes Down Stanford for Third-Straight Conference Win
February 11, 2020 | Gymnastics
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Washington scored a 196.425 to defeat Stanford on Monday night, earning their fourth win in a row and third consecutive conference win. The GymDawgs won the most individual titles of any meet so far this season, with five gymnasts gathering six wins.
"It's always great to get our third consecutive Pac-12 win," said Assistant coach Ralph Rosso. "Although not the total team outcome we were seeking, we had some great performances, especially from our six individual event winners. We are most certainly proud of them."
Geneva Thompson and Amara Cunningham both earned individual wins on vault with scores of 9.850. Madison Copiak and Evanni Roberson won titles on bars, each with a score of 9.900. Roberson also took home the all around honors, finishing with a score of 39.225. Kristyn Hoffa rounded out the individual wins by way of a 9.900 on floor.
Washington found success on bars and floor in particular, two events which have been strong for the team throughout the season. Four GymDawgs scored at or above 9.800 on bars and five scored at or above 9.800 on floor, including Meaghan Ruttan who earned a career-high 9.825.
"We will use this short week to continue to practice our competitive fierceness," said Rosso. "We will keep improving in our mental approach, the quality of our turns, and the accountability that we hold each other to on our pursuit of excellence."
The GymDawgs are back in action at home this weekend against Arizona on Saturday in Alaska Airlines Arena.
