Hull Leads Huskies In Boston Opener
September 20, 2019 | Cross Country
SEATTLE โ Junior All-Pac-12 performer Talon Hull set the pace for the Husky men's cross country team today as the Dawgs kicked off the season with a partial squad at the Battle In Beantown at Franklin Park in Boston. Hull was the third overall finisher today with new additions Jack Rowe and Andrew Jordan next in line, as the Huskies finished fifth overall.
ย
Washington Head Coach Andy Powell said the real training begins Monday for the group which was "not quite where we need to be" on a hot and humid day on the East Coast today, but that "we know where we need to go."
ย
The third-ranked Huskies are thinking long term with several top returners and all five of the freshman class remaining in Seattle this week.
ย
Hull, the 2018 Pac-12 runner-up, covered the 8,000-meters in 24-minutes, 20-seconds for third. Rowe was 12th today in 24:44, and Jordan was 26th in 24:54, the two transfers making quick contributions in their first real races as Huskies.
ย
Julius Diehr finished 48th today and redshirt freshman Isaac Mohn was 67th. Mick Stanovsek (97th) and Nick Laccinole (118th) completed the lineup.
ย
A number of Huskies should be expected to make their season debuts in two weeks' time at the John Payne/Curtis Invitational in University Place, Wash. at Chambers Bay.
The Husky women's team will open up its season on Saturday in Terre Haute at the John McNichols Invitational, with an early start time in Seattle at 6:45 a.m.
