Washington Rolls Past San Francisco, 4-0
September 02, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE --- Blake Bodily and Gio Miglietti each scored a goal and added an assist as Washington cruised to a 4-0 victory over the University of San Francisco on Monday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies (2-0-0) posted their best offensive performance in over two seasons, scoring four goals from four different players to down the Dons (0-2-0).
Bodily got Washington off to a quick start with a goal just four minutes in, finishing a cross from James Smith right in front of the goal mouth. It was the second goal of the season for the junior, who has the match-winner in both matches this season.
Despite several great chances for the Huskies, the score would remain 1-0 until early in the second half. Senior Jaret Townsend tallied his first goal of the season, finishing off a cross from Miglietti in the 47th minute to make it 2-0.
Ethan Bartlow would get in on the act in the 59th minute. Charlie Ostrem started the play with a thrown in from the far sideline, which found Ryan Sailor on the left side of the box. Sailor headed the ball back toward the middle where Bartlow headed it to the far post to make it 3-0.
Washington capped the scoring six minutes later as Miglietti slotted a low cross home from Bodily in the 65th minute.
The Huskies held a commanding 20-5 edge in shots in the contest with 14 different players taking a shot for Washington in the match.
Freshman Sam Fowler got the call in goal for the Huskies, becoming the first freshman to make a start in net since Spencer Richey in 2010. He wasn't tested much, facing just five shots with none of them on frame.
Washington begins a four-match road trip next week—its longest in seven seasons. The trip begins in Michigan as the Huskies take on a pair of top-25 opponents starting with Michigan State on Friday and then playing at Michigan on Sunday.
