Huskies Open At Magnuson, Training Camp Up Next
August 30, 2019 | Cross Country
SEATTLE β Just two days after reporting to campus, the Husky cross country teams suited up for the first time and ran circles around Magnuson Park. Washington, ranked third on both the men's and women's sides, competed along with Seattle U. today. Both Husky teams had the first eight runners across the line today.
Β
Today's meet is a jumping off point for the Huskies as they head into their fall training blocks. The men will have a chunk of training time in Leavenworth, Wash. while the women will be traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. for three weeks from now until just before their next race. Those next races will come in Boston for the men, at the Battle In Beantown on Sept. 20, and one day later for the women, at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

Today it was mostly all returners toeing the line for the Dawgs. The women's 3-mile race was up first. Three-time cross country All-American Katie Rainsberger got some separation to win in a time of 16-minutes, 28-seconds. Allie Schadler and Shona McCulloch crossed together in 16:31 and 16:32, then All-American Lilli Burdon was fourth in 16:52. Madison Heisterman, Hannah Waskom, Camila David-Smith, and Kelly Makin finished 5-8 for the women, in that order.
Β
The men's race featured all returners plus a pair of transfers in Sam Ritz from Columbia and Jack Rowe from San Francisco. Rowe was one of six Huskies that crossed the finish line in one wave at the 20:19 mark. He was joined by Mick Stanovsek, Nick Laccinole, Alex Slenning, Julius Diehr, and Isaac Mohn. Nate Beamer was seventh in 20:29, then Isaac Green took eighth and Ritz tied for ninth-place.
