July 02, 2019 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – University of Washington Director of Athletics Jennifer Cohen announced Tuesday women's tennis Coach Robin Stephenson has signed a five-year contract extension through the 2023-24 season.
Stephenson, who has the 2019 Pac-12 Coach of the Year, has guided the Huskies to a 78-47 dual meet record in five seasons at the helm including a 25-25 mark in Pac-12 play. Under Stephenson's direction, 2019 was one of the best seasons Washington has seen in decades. The Huskies posted a 21-5 record, were No. 10 in the final ITA rankings, finished tied for second in Pac-12 play and reached the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the first time in 10 years.
"I am more excited than ever to be here at the University of Washington and hopefully for many years to come," said Stephenson. "I am incredibly grateful for our leadership and their belief in me guiding the program going forward. I am a firm believer in surrounding yourself with extraordinary people and we are so fortunate to have that in every level of our leadership, our staff, the student-athletes and our fans and community here in Seattle. The future is bright and I can't wait to continue working hard to bring a championship to Seattle!"
In addition to team accolades, Stephenson coached Washington's first All-American since 2011 as Stacey Fung earned the honor in 2018. The Huskies also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last five seasons after last qualifying in 2011 and hosted the first two rounds of the tourney for the first time in 16 years.
"Coach Stephenson has done a tremendous job both on and off the court with our women's tennis program," said Cohen. "We couldn't be more excited to extend her contract and I look forward to seeing the program continue to excel under her leadership after a historic season last spring."
