UW Athletics Announces adidas Partnership Launch Programming
July 01, 2019 | General, adidas
SEATTLE– University of Washington athletics officials announced activations to launch their partnership with apparel provider adidas on Monday, the first day of the contract's 10-year term. Launch programming includes custom footwear designed specifically for student-athletes and fans, timelines for updated uniform designs based on the legacy of Husky athletics, a fan experience in Husky Harbor, and a partnership launch party on campus taking place around the Huskies' Sept. 28 football game against USC.
"We are very excited to kick off our partnership with adidas, and I think our student-athletes and fans will appreciate the depth of thoughtfulness and commitment they have poured into these launch activations," Jen Cohen, UW director of athletics, said. "Leading up to the partnership launch, adidas has shown a huge appetite to listen and learn what makes Washington unique, and I believe that spirit will be reflected throughout all of these activations."
A select group of UW students got the first taste of the partnership when they were provided the opportunity to develop custom footwear, the AM4UW, which will be available for students and fans this fall. Designers from adidas led the students through a design workshop in the UW's CoMotion Lab. The final design will be produced in the adidas SpeedFactory, in Atlanta, GA, and will carry student-inspired design elements that reflect the uniqueness of Seattle and the University of Washington.
Additionally, UW announced uniform design unveil dates for fall sports:
UW fans and student-athletes will also have the opportunity to show their Husky pride through adidas' iconic running shoe, the UltraBOOST. An UltraBOOST model in UW colorways is currently in production, and will be available to Husky student-athletes and at retail this fall.
The launch activations will culminate around the Huskies' Sept. 28 football game against USC, at an adidas Launch Party. UW students and fans will be able to customize new adidas Husky gear and get a first look at the final design of the AM4UW. Details are forthcoming for the event and can be found on www.adidas.com/uw.
