The University of Washington has produced nearly 100 players who have appeared in 14 different leagues throughout the 57-year history of the program. Currently, 16 former Huskies are competing professionally in numerous leagues this summer. Here is a quick look at how each one is doing.
Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders – MLS + USMNT)
Roldan is currently with the US Men's National Team as the team prepares do defend its title as the 2019 Gold Cup begins Tuesday against Guyana. He has six caps so far in 2019 and 11 in his career heading into the tournament.
With the Sounders, Roldan has started all 15 matches this season, scoring three goals—including two match-winners--adding an assist in a team-high 1,278 minutes. Last season, he was the first Sounder field player in club history to start all 34 MLS regular-season matches and played all but seven minutes for Seattle.
Henry Wingo (Seattle Sounders – MLS)
Wingo has split time between the Sounders and its USL Championship side Tacoma Defiance this season. He has four appearances with Seattle, playing 65 minutes—all off the bench. He also has made seven starts with the Defiance, scoring one goal in 514 minutes.
Handwalla Bwana (Seattle Sounders – MLS)
Bwana has appeared in nine matches, making five starts for the Sounders. He has scored a goal on seven shots for Seattle this year. His lone goal proved to the match-winner in the Sounders' 2-1 home victory over Orlando FC.
One of the first official signees with the club after it moved into the MLS last winter, Richey has made nine appearances and has posted a 3-4-2 record. He had an impressive showing with back-to-back shutouts against Portland and New England, earning MLS Team of the Week Starting XI honors in Week 3. Richey has started each of the last five matches for FCC, making 19 saves over his last six matches.
Kyle Coffee, Josh Heard, James Moberg (Real Monarchs – USL Championship)
Coffee, Heard and Moberg have teamed up to help the Monarchs to a 4-6-3 record through the early part of the season. Heard has been strong this season, appearing in 11 matches and scoring a pair of goals including one in the Monarchs' 5-3 victory over Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. Moberg has appeared in seven matches, making six starts while Coffee has seen time in six matches this year.
Darwin Jones (Orange County Soccer Club – USL Championship)
Jones has been having a banner year for OCSC, leading the team with six goals and helping the team to a 4-4-7 overall record. He netted the match-winner back in April in a 4-0 victory against Tacoma—his former club.
Brent Richards (Reno 1868 FC – USL Championship)
Richards has started all 14 matches and played a team-high 1,260 minutes for Reno, helping the team to a 6-3-5 record so far this season including a 4-0-3 mark at home.
Taylor Peay (Louisville City FC – USL Championship)
Peay has played in nine matches this year, making seven starts, to help LCFC to a 7-5-3 record and sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. He is part of a defense which has allowed just 19 goals in 15 matches on the year.
Justin Schmidt (New Mexico United – USL Championship)
Schmidt has started 12 matches for New Mexico United, helping the team to a 6-3-7 overall record and to third place in the Western Conference. The team sits just one point out of first place despite suffering a pair of losses in their last two matches. He leads the team with 58 clearances and 15 blocks.
Taylor Mueller (Charleston Battery – USL Championship)
Meuller has made 12 starts for Charleston as the Battery have posted a 5-3-6 record including a 4-0-4 mark at home. The defender has been part of a backline which has allowed just 17 goals through 14 matches.
Justin Fiddes and Michael Gallagher (LA Galaxy 2 – USL Championship)
Fiddes and Gallagher have seen a lot of action for Los Dos this season with Fiddes making seven starts and appearing in 10 matches while Gallagher has started 10 matches and playing 11 overall. The duo has helped LA Galaxy 2 to a 4-6-6 overall record this season.
Luke Hauswirth (FC Tucson – USL League One)
Hauswirth has played in nine matches this season, making seven starts for FC Tucson for the team which sits in fourth in the League One standings with a 4-5-3 record. His backline has allowed just 15 goals in 13 matches—fifth-lowest in the league.
Mason Robertson (Real Kashmir – Indian I-League)
Robertson appeared in 17 of the team's 19 matches, leading the team in goals with four as Real Kashmir finished the season with a 10-3-6 record and a third-place finish in the Indian I-League. It was the team's first season in the I-League after earning promotion last year. He scored two goals in one match against Mohun Bagan and tallied an impressive goal against Indian Arrow. The team—coached by his father David—allowed just 12 goals this season, the fewest in the league. Both father and son extended their contracts with the club at the beginning of May.
