Plain, Reynolds Earn Pac-12 Weekly Awards
May 13, 2019 | Softball
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced Gabbie Plain as the Pitcher of the Week and Sami Reynolds as the Freshman of the Week for the final week of the regular season. This is Plain's third Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week award this season and Reynolds' second weekly honor from the conference after being named Player of the Week last week.
For Plain, this is her sixth career weekly award from the Pac-12, with three Freshman of the Week awards in 2018 in addition to this year's three Pitcher of the Week awards. Plain was near perfect in her two appearances, allowing no runs and just four baserunners in her 7.1 innings of work. Plain struck out 13 batters against Stanford and earned a complete-game, shutout win as well as a multi-inning save. That gives Plain four saves on the year, the second-most in the Pac-12.
Plain now has the fourth-most weekly Pac-12 awards in her career of any Husky pitcher ever, behind Danielle Lawrie, Jennifer Spediacci, and Taran Alvelo. Only six Huskies ever have earned at least three Pitcher of the Week awards in a single season.
Reynolds hit .500/.455/1.000 last weekend, helping the Huskies to a sweep of Stanford. She had multiple hits in two of the three games, including the first three-extra-base hit game by a Husky freshman in over a decade on Saturday. Reynolds now has a five-game RBI streak, driving in ten runs over that time.
This is Reynolds' second career Pac-12 weekly honor and second in a row after she picked up a Player of the Week award last week. Reynolds joins Madison Huskey and SilentRain Espinoza as Huskies to earn Freshman of the Week this year. Alvelo, Plain, and Espinoza are the only other Huskies to ever earned multiple weekly awards from the Pac-12 in their freshman years.
