Huskies Finish Fifth At Silverado Showdown
April 09, 2019 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. – The Washington women's golf team finished in fifth place at 22-over par after shooting a 4-over round of 292 in the final round of the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday. Sophomore Rino Sasaki tied for ninth place at 4-over par.
"Another pretty boring day," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "After a couple of poor starts by Karen and Sarah, it was great to see them steady themselves and play well for the majority of the round. It was our last regular season event and now we look forward to the postseason."
Sasaki earned her second top-10 finish of the season after her 1-over round of 73 tied for her ninth. Sasaki rolled in four more birdie putts on Tuesday which gave her eight over her three rounds of play.
Senior Julianne Alvarez tied for 11th at 5-over par after carding an even par round of 72 on Tuesday. Alvarez's finish at the Silverado Showdown was her sixth top-20 finish in nine starts this year.
Junior Karen Miyamoto tied for 29th at 9-over par after shooting a 4-over round of 76.
Junior Alice Duan shot her low round of the tournament with an even par round of 72 that put her in a tie for 34th place at +10. Duan recorded five birdies in her final round of play.
Senior Sarah Rhee also tied for 34th place at 10-over par. Rhee posted a 3-over round of 75 in her third round of play.
The Huskies finished second in par-4 scoring at 21-over par and tied for the second in most birdies recorded with 37. UW also tied for the third most pars with 167.
Northwestern won the tournament at 6-over par, four strokes ahead of second place USC. Brooke Riley of Northwestern was the individual champion at 1-under par.
Washington will next be in action at the Pac-12 Championships, April 15-17 in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
