SEATTLE – Washington Beach Volleyball returns to the road this week, heading to the Bay Area where Stanford will host this year's Pac-12 North Invitational. The Dawgs will play four matches in two days on Saturday and Sunday, including facing the top two teams in the national polls.
Â
Right off the bat the Huskies (6-6) will face No. 1-ranked UCLA for the second time this season, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. UCLA won the first meeting at the Pac-12 South Invitational and has gone 23-0 on the season.
Â
Then at 1 p.m. UW will take on the host Cardinal, currently ranked 19th with an 8-10 record.
Â
Sunday, Washington opens up against second-ranked USC at 11 a.m. The Trojans are currently 16-4 with a pair of those losses coming against the Bruins.
Â
At 3 p.m. the Huskies finish up against California, meeting the Bears for the second time this season. Cal is ranked 12th and had a 4-1 win over UW in the season-opener for the Huskies, with UW getting a win at No. 2 from
Cat McCoy and
Kristen Gengenbacher.
Â
Last week the Huskies played their only home matches of the season, a double-header at Alki Beach against 14th-ranked Arizona. The Wildcats came out on top, 3-2, in the first match and 4-1 in the second, despite two wins at the No. 1 spot from
Destiny Julye and Gengenbacher. The Huskies had their chances, but were 0-4 in third sets in the two matches.
