April 22, 2019 | Men's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Washington men's golf team is in ninth place following the first 36 holes of the 2019 Pac-12 Championships at Eugene Country Club on Monday. The Huskies are at 16-over 726 following rounds of 362-364 in the six-count-five tournament. Sophomore Jan Schneider leads the Dawgs as he is in seventh at 3-under 139 (69-70).

"This is a very great championship course and it's a very fair course so I was really proud of how hard the guys competed today," said head coach Alan Murray. "Jan posting back-to-back under par rounds was phenomenal and he's really shown that even if he starts a little off, he can finish very strong which is a trait great players have. He's gaining confidence and keeps getting better and better. Our team showed a lot of great things today and the good thing is everyone is coming back again next year so this is a great learning experience for all of them. We're excited to get back out there tomorrow and see what we can do."

Schneider opened the two-round day going 3-over during his first four holes but he responded quickly getting to two under over the next 14 holes thanks to five birdies to close out at 2-under 69 in that first 18. He kept up the solid play adding another birdie and five pars to open the second round, completing a stretch of 19 holes without any errors. Despite a few blemishes down the stretch, Schneider closed round two at 1-under 70 and currently sits five strokes off the lead.

Sophomore Noah Woolsey also sits in the top 15 as he is tied for 12th at even-par 142 (70-72). Woolsey's first round saw him get to 2-under after six holes and despite a bogey on hole seven, he made par on the next 11 holes. In round two, the sophomore had a few more errors but he added four birdies en route to his 1-over 72.

Sitting in a tie for 41st is junior Henry Lee who carded a 5-over 147 (70-77). Lee was also one of three Huskies to post an under-par round as he opened with a 1-under 70. Freshman Ranveer Grewal is tied for 55th with a 7-over 149 (77-72) after improving his score by five strokes in round two, while fellow freshman Padraic Sim also made second round improvements finishing tied for 61st at 9-over 151. He went 78-73 on the day. Rounding out the UW contingent was junior Shamu Bodhidatta who is in 71st with an 18-over 160 (76-84).

The Huskies will play 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday with tomorrow's tee time starting at 12:30. The Dawgs will be paired with USC and Oregon State starting from hole one.
