Huskies Add Top Multi-Event Transfer Eikeng
March 04, 2019 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – One of the best multi-event athletes in the junior ranks internationally, Ida Eikeng has committed to the Huskies and will join Associate Head Coach Toby Stevenson's growing group of talented heptathletes and decathletes.
Eikeng was eighth at the 2018 World Junior Championships in the heptathlon, competing for her native Norway. She scored 5,658 points at the World Juniors in Tampere, Finland, just off her career-best score of 5,678 points. That is a score that would have ranked 18th in the NCAA last outdoor season.
A few notable PRs for Eikeng in individual events are a 100-meters best of 11.70, a 200-meters time of 24.01, and a 100-meter hurdles PR of 13.52 seconds. Her best javelin mark is 152-5 and her shot put best of 44-3 1/2. She has a long jump PR of 19-2 and a high jump PR of 5-7 3/4.
Eikeng spent the first part of the academic year at the University of Kentucky and will join the Huskies in the spring of 2019 and will redshirt the coming outdoor season.
Stevenson coached his former Kentucky athlete Tim Duckworth to the silver medal in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships this past weekend. Duckworth won the NCAA decathlon title last year. Eikeng joins another international multi-event UW commit, Ollie Thorner from the U.K., who will be a freshman next year. She is the first transfer UW has announced, joining 12 incoming freshmen for 13 new Dawgs in 2019-20.
