PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The #2 Washington Huskies fell 3-2 in extras to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on a strange finish on a play that looked to tie the game in the eighth. This was the first regular season non-conference loss for the Huskies since 2017.

Washington looked to have tied the game up with a one-out RBI double by Kaija Gibson in the bottom of the eighth, bringing pinch-runner Francesca Torraca around to score before Gibson was thrown out attempting to take third. The umpires then ruled that the pinch-runner had entered incorrectly and was also out, making it two outs on the play and ending the game after the first batter of the inning had grounded out.

Taran Alvelo would take the loss in the game despite allowing no earned runs and just two hits. Sami Reynolds would triple in the game, driving in the first run of the game and scoring the second for Washington.

		SCORING
First Inning: After another bunt single by Bates started the game, Reynolds hit a liner past a diving rightfielder for her first career triple, making it 1-0. Sixth Inning: Notre Dame picked up two runs after a throwing error by the Huskies to tie the game before Alvelo entered. Eighth Inning: With two down, Notre Dame managed to lace a single just through the right side, taking a 3-2 lead.

		NOTES
Alvelo (2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 K) recorded her 600^th career strikeout, making her the sixth Husky to reach that mark. She joins Danielle Lawrie, Jennifer Spediacci, Ashley Boek, Caitlin Noble, and Tia Bollinger. Gibson (1x1, 2B) made her 100^th appearance as a Husky tonight. This was Taryn Atlee's (1x4, 2 SB) first game with multiple stolen bases as a Husky. Madison Huskey (1x2) became the third Husky to record their first career hit this weekend. Reynolds (1x3, 3B, R, RBI) is the first Husky freshman with at least one run and RBI in each of the season's first two games since Kristen Rivera in 2002.

A Sunday doubleheader wraps up the weekend for Washington tomorrow. The Huskies will play Liberty at 1:00 pm PT, followed by a game against #19 Baylor at 4:00 pm PT.
