Washington Earns 9-1 Run-Rule Victory In Season Opener

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The #2 Washington Huskies earned a run-rule victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in the season opener, using a late barrage of runs to wrap up a 9-1 win in five innings. Morganne Flores and Noelle Hee each drove in multiple runs for the Huskies. Sis Bates, Sami Reynolds, and Amirah Milloy had multi-hit games.
Taran Alvelo earned the win with 3.2 innings of one-hit ball in relief of Gabbie Plain. The senior would strike out three batters in the game and allow only one baserunner.
Five Huskies made their collegiate debuts in the game. Sami Reynolds earned her first career RBI, while Reynolds and SilentRain Espinoza would each have their first career hits. Ari Quiñones also scored a run the game's final run on Bates' game-ending single. Livy Schiele and Madison Huskey also debuted.
Washington will play a doubleheader tomorrow, with game one against Notre Dame at 4:00 pm and game two against Duke at 6:30 pm.
