UW Alum Danny Shelton Earns Super Bowl Title
February 04, 2019 | Football
For the 34th time, a former Washington football player has played on the winning team in the Super Bowl as defensive tackle Danny Shelton helped his New England Patriots to their sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy Sunday in Super Bowl LIII.
Shelton, an Auburn High product who wrapped up his UW career in 2014 and who was drafted the Browns with the 12th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, had a highlight play for the Patriots in the second quarter, when he burst into the backfield and tackled Rams back C.J. Anderson for a three-yard loss.
In addition to Shelton, two former Huskies played for the Los Angeles Rams in Sunday's game as Cory Littleton and Marcus Peters both played significant roles. Littleton, who was voted to his first Pro Bowl in 2018, made a splash early in the game when he came down with an interception off of a deflection on the first pass attempt of the game. Littleton led all players with 10 total tackles. Peters started at cornerback and contributed seven tackles.
