Rhee Tied for Second After Shortened First Day at Bruin/Wave Invitational
February 25, 2019 | Women's Golf
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – University of Washington senior Sarah Rhee led the Huskies on day one of the Bruin/Wave Invitational as she is tied for second with a 2-over 146 (71-75). The Huskies as a team are in ninth at 42-over 618 (305-313) as many other players did not finish their second round and will complete their final holes Tuesday morning before moving on to the third round at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
"It was a tough day for us today," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It was good to see Sarah rebound and get back in her groove there. It was a little frustrating without two of our senior leaders in the lineup as they are out with an illness but I'm looking forward to seeing how we bounce back tomorrow."
Rhee opened the day with a 1-over during her first nine holes but bounced back quickly on the back nine with three birdies to finish the opening 18 at 1-under 71. She had a rougher go on her second 18 but was able to stay steady and finish at 2-over 146. Rhee is just two strokes back from first place held by Oregon's Kathleen Scavo, who has yet to finish her second round.
Sophomore Rino Sasaki, playing in the number one spot for the Dawgs, was next in scoring as she is tied for 39th at 11-over 155 (76-79). Junior Alice Duan is in a tie for 50th with her 13-over 157 (79-78) as she improved her second round score by one stroke in the afternoon.
Freshman Martha Lewis, who is competing in the team's lineup for the second-straight event, is tied for 60th at 160 (79-81), while junior Karen Miyamoto is in a tie for 67th at 17-over 161 (80-81).
Washington continues play on Tuesday with 18 final holes at the par-72, 6,266 yard San Luis Obispo CC.
