UW in 15th After Round Two of Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate
February 18, 2019 | Women's Golf
NEW ORLEANS – The 18th ranked University of Washington women's golf team carded a 24-over 312 during round two of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Monday at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans. The Huskies' two-day total of 36-over 612 (300-312) has them in 15th place heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
"We were completely unprepared for the conditions today," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It was very cold and windy at the beginning of our round and it took us about nine holes to settle in. Once we actually did settle in, we played well in the same conditions. After going 21-over on our first nine, we went just 3-over on our second nine of the day. We need to be better prepared tomorrow as the conditions are most likely going to be the same as they were today."
The Huskies started the second round on the back nine and struggled through the start of the day in the 15 mph winds and chilly weather. Sophomore Rino Sasaki once again led the Dawgs as she posted a 6-over 78 to turn in a two-day total of 7-over 151 to tie for 35th. Freshman Martha Lewis matched her day one score on Monday as she carded a 4-over 76 to climb seven spots into a tie for 39th with an 8-over 152 (76-76). Her 76 was the best score by a Husky during round two.
Senior Julianne Alvarez is tied for 52nd following her 6-over 78 to give her a 10-over 154 while junior Alice Duan is currently tied for 64th at 11-over 155 (75-80). Rounding out the UW crew is senior Wenyung Keh who is tied for 83rd at 16-over 160 following back to back rounds of 8-over 80.
Washington wraps up play at the stacked tournament which features 15 team ranked in the top 50 nationally on Tuesday and will tee off at 6 a.m. PT alongside North Carolina and Arizona State.
