Anderson Jumpstarts Season With No. 2 Indoor 5k
December 08, 2019 | Track & Field
SEATTLE - Indoor track came early this year, as Husky senior Tanner Anderson kicked things off more than a month before the Dempsey Indoor season gets underway. Anderson raced at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University, and he turned in one of the fastest 5,000-meters in school history.
Anderson finished eighth in the elite field and fourth among collegiate runners, as the race was won by NCAA cross country champion Edwin Kurgat in 13:24.04. Out of cross country eligibility, Anderson trained through the fall and showed he's in great form, as he opened his season with a career-best time of 13:40.42. That was a three-second personal-best and the second-fastest time in Husky history.
The time would also have been an NCAA Indoor Championships qualifier a year ago.
Also in the field was volunteer assistant coach Sam Prakel who was 10th in 13:48.79.
The Huskies will open the 2020 track season inside the Dempsey on Jan. 18 with the UW Indoor Preview.
