Las Vegas Bowl Soundbites: Chris Petersen Press Conference
December 08, 2019 | Football
SEATTLE – Washington football head coach Chris Petersen held a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8, following the news that the Huskies have been selected to play in the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl. Read some of what he had to say:
(Opening statement) "Love going to Las Vegas. Been there a few times and they do a great job. It's an awesome location for fans. The other thing is just being an early bowl game. Sometimes these things can drag on for a long time. It's one of the earlier bowl games, so we'll go prepare and be ready to play. Personally speaking, there are a lot of other teams that I'd probably like to be playing for this last time, but it is what it is. It's interesting how sometimes these things work out."
(On whether there's been a feeling of relief over the past week) "I don't know if it's really relief. I just feel very strongly that it's the right thing on both accounts. I'm also under no illusions like, 'Okay, this is easy now and all this is behind me and now my life gets good.' There's a lot I have to get figured out. This is one of the harder things I've had to do because I've always known what I was going to do the last 30-plus years and now I really don't know what that's going to look like. That's going to take some work."
(On the focus being on him throughout the bowl game) "That's not what this is about. It's not even kind of about that. It's about these players that have worked really hard this season. Boise State has had an unbelievable season again over there, and our guys have been through a lot and grinded through a lot and now we're going to play a really good team. That's what it should be about and nothing else."
(On how many practices the Huskies will have before the Las Vegas Bowl) "We'll probably get another one or two in, and then game week."
