December 17, 2019 | Football
LAS VEGAS β Washington football head coach Chris Petersen and defensive lineman Benning Potoa'e met with the media Tuesday night, Dec. 17, following the Huskies' arrival into Las Vegas ahead of Saturday's Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl. Read some of what they had to say:
HEAD COACH CHRIS PETERSEN
(On playing in the Las Vegas Bowl) "We love coming to this game. I think this is my fifth time here as a coach. It's awesome for the players. I think the date is awesome because kids get to go home for Christmas⦠To play a team like Boise State, that's what guys want to do is play good teams. This is a really good situation."
(On his career being the main storyline ahead of Saturday's game) "It's about two good programs, it's about the kids playing. Our guys are excited to play Boise State because it's a really good opponent. Coming to Vegas for a great bowl game, that's what this is about. I'm just one part of this whole thing. It's about the kids and it's about the programs."
(On how the coaching staff has handled the early signing period) "Spectacularly. We haven't lost one guy. It's a tribute to the kids we've been recruiting and their families. I couldn't be more excited about that because I knew most of them would stay the course, and it looks like they're all going to be with us.'
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN BENNING POTOA'E
(On the program's "Built for Life" philosophy) "I don't know about other programs, but 'Built for Life' is definitely a life-changing thing. It shows us how to act. We're not just football players. We go to college and we're student-athletes, but there's a whole lot more to life than footballβ¦"
(On the most important thing Chris Petersen has taught him) "There's this one saying, 'How you do small things is how you do all things.' Details matter, as little as making your bed in the morning. It carries over to a lot of thingsβ¦"
