SEATTLE – Washington punter Hunter Green was selected as one of "Ray's 8" for Week 5, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award on Monday.
Green is now in the running for being named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday.
Green averaged 51.7 yards on six punts against USC this past weekend. He had three punts put down inside of the 20 including two downed at the one-yard line and four go for over 50 yards.
This season Green ranks fourth in the nation and first in the Big Ten averaging 47.7 yards per punt. A native of Redmond, Wash., Green has had 10 punts go for over 50 yards including a season long 64-yard punt against Washington State in the season opener.
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
