November 09, 2019 | Men's Soccer, Student-Athlete Academic Services
SEATTLE --- Washington senior John Magnus, redshirt junior Kasey French and redshirt sophomore Lucas Meek earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honors as the Huskies placed three players on the 12-man team which recognizes student-athletes for their work on and off the field.
The 2019 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees selected Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
For French, it was his third-straight year earning the prestigious honor after posting a 3.88 cumulative GPA while pursuing an incredible double-major in mathematics and physics at Washington.
French has also been a key part of the Husky defense which ranks among the best in the NCAA in 2019, allowing just nine goals on the season and recording 11 shutouts. French has started all 15 matches he has played in this season, missing just one game due to injury. His 1,293 minutes are the third most on the team and he scored his first collegiate goal in the Huskies' 1-0 victory over Michigan.
Magnus is close to wrapping up his Washington career with an equally impressive 3.73 GPA while working toward a computer science degree with a minor in Mathematics. Magnus has been a key cog for the No. 1 Huskies this year as the central midfielder on the 14-2-0 UW squad. Magnus has also seen time in 15 matches and played 1,155 minutes in midfield for the Huskies--the sixth-most on the team.
Meek also earned the honor for the first time, recording a 3.59 GPA through his first two years in pursuit of a business degree at Washington. The redshirt sophomore has turned heads nationally with a breakout season, scoring six goals including five match-winners after playing just three minutes in one match prior to this year. His 16 points (6g, 4a) are second on the team despite playing just 537 minutes this season (an average of 38 minutes per game).
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada with District 8 representing Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington and all Canadian colleges.
