Five Reasons To Attend Washington's NCAA Tournament Second-Round Match
November 22, 2019 | Men's Soccer
The Washington men's soccer team is back in the NCAA Tournament, and we've got five reasons why you won't want to miss the Huskies' second-round match against Boston College this Sunday evening at Husky Soccer Stadium.
1. Celebrate the 2019 Pac-12 champs.
The Huskies won the Pac-12 Conference title this season, their third overall and first since 2013, after going 8-2 in league play. This Sunday's match will be the first home game for Washington since being crowned conference champions last weekend, and the Huskies will certainly be excited to play in front of their home fans.
2. More postseason soccer in Seattle.
It's been an exciting month of soccer in Seattle, proving that the Emerald City remains the center of the sport. The Seattle Sounders won the 2019 MLS Cup after a captivating run through the MLS playoffs while the Husky women's soccer team returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 and defeated crosstown foe Seattle U last weekend to advance to the second round. This Sunday's game is another opportunity for local soccer fans to experience the sport that runs through the city's fabric.
3. Epic goal celebrations.

4. Washington's offense has been red hot this season.
The Huskies finished the regular season atop the Pac-12 and 16th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 2.11 goals per game. It's not just two or three players, either, as eleven different UW players have scored at least one goal with 16 players recording a point. Headlining that group is Blake Bodily, the 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year, who leads the UW in points (25) and goals (10). His 10 goals are the most by a Husky since 2011.
5. The Huskies' defense is a sight to behold.
As good as Washington's offense has been this season, the Huskies' defense deserves its own headlines. The UW has 11 shutouts on the year and has allowed just 11 goals, good for the fourth-best shutout percentage (.611) and eighth-lowest goals against average (0.606) in the NCAA. Sophomore Ethan Bartlow was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year while goalkeepers Sam Fowler and Bryce Logan have split time in net without skipping a beat.
