Joey Parish Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
November 19, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO --- Senior forward/midfielder Joey Parish has been named the final Pac-12 Player of the Week for the 2019 season after scoring a pair of goals in 29 seconds in Washington's win at Oregon State last week.
It's the second time Parish has earned the weekly honor after being selecting for the first player of the week to start the 2017 season. It's Washington's third selection this year.
Parish's brace broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 78th minute at Oregon State with both goals coming in nearly identical fashion. The first was delivered from Dylan Teves on the wing right to the front of the box where Parish knocked it in. After the restart, Washington was able to quickly gain possession with Teves sending the ball to Imanol Rosales who crossed it into the box where Parish scored again.
The goals doubled Parish's season total to four—a career-best for the senior who has 11 goals in his four seasons at UW. It was also the second career brace for Parish. His first brace came against Oregon State at home in 2017.
The victory at Oregon State coupled with a loss by Stanford the night before gave the Huskies their third Pac-12 Title and first since 2013. UW finished the Pac-12 slate with an 8-2-0—its highest win total in Pac-12 play in program history.
No. 4 Washington (15-3-0) opens the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at the No. 6 seed in the field, hosting the winner of the first-round match between Boston College and Yale. Kick off is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
