Huskies Earn No. 6 Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament
November 18, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE --- The University of Washington men's soccer team received the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament in the 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer National Championship Tournament, hosting a second-round match against the winner of the match between Boston College and Yale on Sunday, Nov. 24.
This is the fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Huskies, who finished the regular season with a 15-3-0 overall record and won their third Pac-12 championship with an 8-2-0 conference mark. Washington has reached the NCAA Tournament in seven of nine seasons under Head Coach Jamie Clark, reaching at least the third round in three of those seasons.
Washington earned a first-round bye in the tournament and host the second-round match against either Boston College or Yale on Sunday. (Game Time will be announced later this week.)
The other side of the bracket features No. 11 seed Marshall which is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Thundering Herd host the winner of the first-round match between Butler and West Virginia. The third-round match between the two bracket winners would be hosted by the higher seed on the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
The Huskies ended the season with a dominating showing against Oregon State, beating the Beavers 3-1 in Corvallis on Friday. That victory—coupled with a loss by Stanford—gave Washington its third Pac-12 Championship and first since 2013.
The Huskies have played well on both sides of the ball, recording 11 shutouts while allowing just 11 goals on the season. That's the fourth-best shutout percentage (.611) and eighth-lowest goals against average (0.606) in the NCAA. Offensively, Washington leads the Pac-12 and ranks 16th in the NCAA in scoring offense (2.11 g/gm).
Eleven different Huskies have scored at least one goal with 16 players recording a point. Blake Bodily picked up his team-high 10th goal of the season in that match, being the first double-digit goal scorer for the Huskies since Brent Richards scored 10 in 2011. Lucas Meek has scored six goals and added five assists with five of his goals coming as match-winners. Dylan Teves returned from injury last week and added two assists to give him a team-high nine assists to go with a goal this year.
Washington's 15 wins are the most since the Huskies won 16 in 2013 and just the second time the team has won 15 or more matches since 2000.
