Bodily Repeats at Pac-12 Player of the Week
October 29, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO --- Junior midfield Blake Bodily was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday—his second-straight Player of the Week honor—after scoring three goals in two conference road wins for No. 1 Washington.
It was the second time Bodily has received player of the week recognition in his career and the first time a Husky has earned the honor in consecutive weeks. The last time Washington had back-to-back player of the week recipients was in 2014 when Josh Heard (Sept. 29) and Darwin Jones (Oct. 6) earned the honors.
Bodily netted the lone goal in Washington's 1-0 victory at UCLA on Thursday, knocking home a deflected cross from Lucas Meek in the 66th minute.
He followed that up with his first career multi-goal match, scoring twice in the Huskies' 3-0 win at San Diego State on Sunday. He scored on an impressive free kick from 27 yards out, firing it over the wall and to the upper right corner in the 48th minute. Just three minutes later, he stepped up and converted a penalty kick to cap the scoring in the match.
Bodily, who is on the MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist, leads the Huskies in goals with eight and in points with 21. He has scored a goal in each of his last three matches and has recorded at least one point in 10 of 13 matches he has played in this season. Bodily has started nine matches with Washington posting a perfect 9-0-0 record and outscoring teams 28-2 in those nine matches.
The No. 1-ranked Huskies (14-1-0, 7-0-0 Pac-12) are off this week, returning to action on Thursday, Nov. 7, when they put their 10-match winning streak on the line against California at 7:00 p.m.
