October 29, 2019 | Men's Golf
University of Washington men's golf freshman Bo Peng was named a First Team All-American by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). Following an impressive first four tournaments with the Huskies this fall, Peng collected the national honor.
"I'm very proud of Bo," said coach Alan Murray. "He has shown his ability already as a college golfer and will continue to be a really big part of our team moving forward."
The Junior All-America Teams, are an annual recognition since 1978 that distinguishes the best junior golfers from around the world. This year, the team includes 96 junior golfers, 48 boys and 48 girls, ages 14-19, from 25 states and eight countries, including Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, United States and Venezuela.
Peng earned the award through play in nationally recognized junior tournaments, many of which were conducted by the AJGA. After assessing the rankings through mid-October, Peng and the rest of the All-American team members were named by the AJGA.
"It's a wonderful honor for Bo," said Murray. "He's a fantastic golfer and he is very deserving of this award. I'm excited for him to carry this momentum through the end of our fall season and into the spring."
Peng's play for the University of Washington has shown why he earned the prestigious recognition. The freshman has helped the Huskies to three tournament wins out of four total contests. In the four competitions, Peng has finished inside the top twenty in each, including a second overall finish at the Maridoe Intercollegiate.
"I think other junior players will recognize that we are now attracting players of Bo's caliber and ability," said Murray. "These younger players will see that Washington is a place that can help the best junior players in the US and the world get their games to the next level."
