Ruelas Earns Pac-12 Goalkeeper Of The Week
October 29, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO - For the second time in her career, Siena Ruelas has been named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week. Ruelas earned the weekly honor from the Pac-12 after allowing just one goal in two games against ranked opponents last week. This is Washington's first Player of the Week honor from the Pac-12 this season.
Against #18 UCLA, Ruelas matched her career high with seven saves, allowing just one goal. After that, Ruelas set a new career high, with nine saves against #7 USC as the Huskies shutout the Trojans 2-0. Ruelas raised her save percentage on the year to .808 after the weekend, the fourth-best mark in the Pac-12.
Ruelas' 16 saves were the most over a two-game span by any Washington keeper since 2013, when Megan Kufeld made 17 in back-to-back double-overtime games. The nine saves against #7 USC were the most since Sarah Shimer made nine against Stanford in 2017. No Husky has made more saves in a single game since Kufeld, who made 11 saves in 2013 against Arizona State.
This is the second time in Ruelas' career she has earned Goalkeeper of the Week from the Pac-12, also earning it in 2018 after making seven saves at #2 Florida. Ruelas joins Kufeld as the only Husky keepers to ever earn multiple Goalkeeper of the Week awards in their careers.
The rest of the 2019 regular season will be at home for the Huskies. Washington will take on Colorado on Thursday, October 31 at 7:00 pm, then plays Utah on Sunday, November 3 at noon.
