Gallagher/Kopcalic Advance to ITA NW Regional Doubles Final

PALO ALTO, Calif. --- Senior Katarina Kopcalic and sophomore Sedona Gallagher came from behind to pull off an impressive 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (4) win and become the first Huskies' doubles team to reach the finals since 2002 on Monday at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Stanford.
Kopcalic and Gallagher picked up the semifinal win in impressive, comeback fashion with the win over Oregon's Rifanty Kahfiani and Allison Mulville as the tournament shifted to a best of three format. The Huskies suffered a first-set loss, but battled back to dominate in the second and cruise to a tiebreaker win in the third. They are the first UW doubles team to reach the final of the NW Regional since 2002 when Claire Carter and Darija Klaic made their way to the final before falling.
Kopcalic and Gallagher need just one more victory to claim the automatic berth in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships November 6-10 at the Newport Beach Tennis Club & The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif. They take on the No. 2 seed in the tournament Emily Arbuthnott and Angelica Blake from Stanford at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Kopcalic also had a chance to reach the final in singles play, but suffered a tough 6-1, 6-0 loss to Saint Mary's Maria Kozyreva in her semifinal match.
