Postgame Quotes: Oregon
October 19, 2019 | Football
SEATTLE - Washington football head coach Chris Petersen and select players met with the media following Saturday's game against Oregon. Read some of what they had to say:
HEAD COACH CHRIS PETERSEN
(Opening statement) "I thought it was a well-played college football game. We did a nice job against a good football team. I am proud of our guys for coming back like that in the second half. They fought hard. It's a game of destiny and it came down to a play or two. We had a couple of three and outs in the second half, and then we had that last drive that wasn't good for us. Other than that, [Oregon] did a great job of running the ball, and we couldn't get off blocks. They were converting those third downs, and punching it in at crunch time. Our kids played hard, like they always do, and we will keep grinding. There is a lot of football left to play."
(On what he saw out of Terrell Bynum today) "He did a nice job and made some tough catches. He has strong hands. He is a tough kid. We are going to keep rolling with him."
(On Jacob Eason's game today) "I thought he played efficient and clean. There is always one or two plays that you would like to have back. We don't want to turn the ball over and do those certain things. It was good defense that we played. I think he played pretty solid.
(On Salvon Ahmed's play today) "I thought he stepped up. Those other guys were down and getting him all the carries. He did a nice job. We were pleased with him."
(On what made Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert so difficult to sack today) "Their offensive line is good. They have been good all season. That was another frustration. We could just not get there. We were mixing up blitz's and all these types of things. They bought time and did a great job. You can only cover so long sometimes and I thought our guys did a great job of covering, for the most part. In terms of how long he was standing back there, that is a long time to cover."
QUARTERBACK JACOB EASON
(On what he saw from the offensive line in the first half) "Yeah, that's our version of football. We played a great first half. Second half, at the end of the game, we didn't execute in the second half and lost the football game."
(On the touchdown to Puka Nacua) "That was just an RPO. He ran a hitch route, corner was off, so we had a chance, and he had a great run after the catch."
WIDE RECEIVER TERRELL BYNUM
(On whether this kind of game was coming for him) "Yeah, I've been grinding for a while, waiting for my opportunity. I feel like today was the day to show it."
DEFENSIVE BACK MYLES BRYANT
(On having a bye week right now as opposed to playing another game next week) "Oh yeah, just coming off a loss is pretty hard and then not getting that week right back to play is pretty tough. I feel that we have a good group of guys who will use it as fuel to get back in there and get us to where we need to be."
RUNNING BACK SALVON AHMED
(On whether it was tougher knowing that Sean McGrew and Richard Newton would be out this game) "It's definitely hard not having [McGrew] and [Newton]. Those guys are really good players and they contribute a lot to this team. But that running back room is filled with a lot of guys that can go out there and contribute. [Kamari Pleasant] and [Cameron Davis] came out there and did their thing."
(On whether he was surprised about how well you were able to run against Oregon) "I'm not surprised because we have and amazing offensive line that goes out there and works every single down so it's up to us. They're going to make all sorts of stuff open to us. So, I'm definitely not surprised."
