January 24, 2019 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE - The Washington GymDawgs added another impressive gymnast to the 2020 roster, signing Ellie Bagley as part of next year's freshman class. Bagley has already won a national championship in her career, on vault, and will look to continue her long run of success as a part of the Washington team.
A native of San Clemente, California, Bagley has regularly finished in the top three in SoCal and Region 1 Championships. Bagley won the 2013 Level 9 Western Championship on vault, one of her six vault event titles that year. She finished in the top three on vault at the Region 1 Championships for four consecutive years, also taking home an all-around title during that time.
"Ellie embodies everything we look for in a young woman, student, and athlete," said Elise Ray-Statz. "She will enhance our team culture with her character and work ethic, she's an impressive student with her eyes set on engineering, and she is a very talented all-around gymnast. We are so excited to have Ellie join the GymDawg family!"
In addition to her athletic excellence, Bagley has shone in the classroom, maintaining a GPA over 4.0 throughout her high school career. She was named an AP Scholar with Distinction and has been on the Honor Roll every quarter since sixth grade.
Bagley is excited to join the GymDawgs, saying that "from its amazing engineering program to the supportive team, I felt at home the first time I stepped on the UW campus. The stunning campus, and having extended family close by, also drew me to Washington."
