Huskies to Begin Fall Season at ITA All-American Championships

SEATTLE --- The 2018-19 men's tennis season will begin for the Huskies as seniors Enzo Sommer and Kawika Lam head to Tulsa, Okla. for the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Sommer and Lam will both play in the singles qualifying draw, which takes place on Oct. 1-2. The top 16 players from the qualifying draw will advance to the main draw, beginning Oct. 4.
Additionally, Sommer and Lam also earned entries into the main draw doubles competition, which will take place on Oct. 4-7. The pair was ranked No. 27 in the 2018 preseason Oracle/ITA Men's Doubles Rankings, after the duo recorded a 17-13 doubles record in the 2017-18 campaign.
About the Team
Head coach Matt Anger enters his 25th season as the Husky men's tennis coach. The team returns six players from last year's squad with five freshman additions. The returners include four seniors and two sophomores.
The four others returning players are sophomore Alexis Alvarez, sophomore Jack Davis, senior Piers Foley and senior Sebastian Hawken.
Davis led the team in singles wins with 19 in the 2017-18 campaign, while holding a 13-11 doubles record.
The five incoming freshman are Ewen Lumsden, Kasper Smith, Adam Torocsik, Ernesto Turegano Julian and Thomas Yates.
Later in the fall season, the Huskies will take part in the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Oct. 5-7. On Oct. 11-15, the Huskies will host the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. UW will then head to the Jack Kramer Invitational on Nov. 1-4 in Rolling Hills, Calif. Washington will end the fall season in Surprise, Ariz. on Nov. 7-11 for the ITA Fall Championships.
