Washington Announces 2018-19 Schedule
August 01, 2018 | Men's Golf
SEATTLE --- The return of the Husky Invitational highlights an ambitious schedule announced by University of Washington men's golf coach Alan Murray on Wednesday.
"I am really looking forward to our tournament schedule this coming year," said Murray. "We will have a young team and we will be tested by this tough schedule where we will compete against some of the best teams in the country consistently. By the end of the regular season we will have a pretty accurate idea on where we stand as a team and as individuals relative to the best in college golf."
Highlighting the fall season is the return of the Husky Invitational. After a two-year hiatus, Washington once again welcomes some of the top teams in the region to the Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Sept. 25-26.
"It is great to have the Husky Invitational back on the schedule and playing it Aldarra is really a special thing for our program," said Murray. "I know that the entire field will really enjoy the golf course and it will be a great test."
The fall schedule sees the Huskies traversing the country and playing some impressive courses. Washington opens the season at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farms in Independence, Minn., Sept 9-10. After returning home for the Husky Invite, Washington heads to Texas for the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.
The Huskies make their longest trip of the regular season at the end of October, traveling 2,566 miles to Windermere, Florida for the Tavistock Collegiate at Isleworth Country Club. Washington wraps up the fall slate with the Ka'anapali Collegiate at Ka'anapali Golf Course Royal Course in Maui, Hawaii, Nov. 2-4.
"Our fall sees us play three extremely strong events with the Gopher, the NCI and the Tavistock on wonderful golf courses against very strong fields," said Murray. "We will travel to Hawaii for our last tournament of the Fall which will be a first time playing at Royal Ka'anapali for our team."
Washington's spring schedule sees the team playing the bulk of its schedule in California with tournaments in Arizona and Texas thrown in. The Huskies return to the Arizona Intercollegiate to kick off the spring season January 28-29 at the Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson. Next up on the slate is the Southwester Invitational at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., February 25-26.
UW travels to San Diego March 11-12 for the Lamkin Classic at the San Diego Country Club before making a return trip to Palo Alto for The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course March 29-31.
The Huskies longest trip of the spring sees the team travel to Bryan, Texas for one of the most difficult tournaments in collegiate golf: The Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club April 6-7.
Washington wraps up the regular season at the Western Intercollegiate on April 13-14 at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz.
"The spring sees us mix up some regular stops with some new tournaments for us," said Murray. "Arizona Intercollegiate, the Goodwin and the Western are great events and we look forward to going back to improve upon last year's finishes. We will play in the Southwestern Invitational hosted by Pepperdine which boasts a strong west coast field predominantly. The Lamkin Classic at San Diego Country Club is one of the best tournaments in college golf and is notorious for fast, championship speed greens and will be good preparation for the post-season. We will travel to Texas A&M to play in the Aggie Invitational in early April. It is arguably the strongest tournament in college golf."
The postseason begins with the Pac-12 Championship, hosted by Oregon at the Eugene Country Club April 22-24.
"We are excited that the Pac-12 Championship will be back in the Pacific Northwest at Eugene Country Club," said Murray.
NCAA Regionals are held at six regional sites May 13-15 with the NCAA Championships May 24-29 at The Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Ark.
"I feel we have a really good combination of championship golf courses, great fields and traveling to different parts of the country and seeing a variety of climates and styles of golf courses," said Murray. "I'm looking forward to watching the team develop and grow over the course of the year."
