
Five Husky Golfers Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

SEATTLE --- Five University of Washington golf student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic men's and women's golf teams announced by the league office on Monday.

Junior Carl Yuan earned All-Academic second-team honors, posting a 3.46 GPA in pursuit of a communications degree. Yuan, who led the men's team with a 71.29 stroke average, carded 17 rounds below par including 10 rounds in the 60s. He had four top-10 finishes including finishing as the runner-up at the Pac-12 Championship.

Fellow men's golfer, senior Frank Garber along with women's golf juniors Julianne Alvarez, Wenyung Keh, and sophomore Karen Miyamoto each received honorable mention honors.

Garber posted a 3.31 GPA working toward a degree in meteorology with a minor in applied mathematics. He finished his senior season with a 74.06 stroke average, competing in all 12 team events and wrapping up his career with rounds playedβninth-most in program history.

Keh led the women's team with a 72.59 stroke averageβthe fifth-best single season average in program history heading into the NCAA Championships. Keh posted a 3.09 GPA in pre-major work.

Alvarez earned Dean's List recognition in the winter quarter as she earned a 3.93 GPA, which pushed her overall GPA to 3.41. On the links, Alvarez holds a 75.03 stroke average and played as the team's No. 4 at the NCAA Championships.

Miyamoto carries a 3.38 GPA in pre-sciences and also has a 75.00 stroke average on the year. The sophomore, who has two top-10 finishes on the season, is also on the NCAA Championship tournament squad as the No. 5 player.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's competition.

The UW women's team is competing at the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma, making the initial cut to 15 teams after play on Sunday. The Husky men's team's season wrapped up last week with Yuan and sophomore Henry Lee placing in the top 25 at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Stockton, Calif.
