Pettis Headed To 49ers As Second-Round Pick

Washington's Dante Pettis was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft Friday evening in Dallas.
Pettis was chosen with the 44th overall pick after the Niners traded with Washington for the selection. He is the 12th Husky taken in the first two rounds of the draft over the last five years (2014-18).
Pettis, a wide receiver and punt returner from San Clemente, Calif., earned consensus first-team All-America last season, when he broke numerous school, conference and NCAA records for his exploits as a punt returner. Pettis returned an NCAA-record nine punts for TDs over his four-year career, including a school and Pac-12 record four as a senior in 2017. He also broke the school and Pac-12 record for career punt return yardage, finishing with 1,274.
A first-team All-Pac-12 selection as both a wide receiver and return specialist in 2017, Pettis also caught 163 passes for 2,256 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career. The son of longtime former Major Leaguer Gary Pettis, Dante also earned second-team All-Pac-12 in 2016 and second-team All-America as a sophomore in 2015.
On Thursday, UW defensive tackle Vita Vea was chosen with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the draft. The 2018 NFL Draft concludes Saturday with rounds four through seven.
