Plain Named NFCA National Pitcher Of The Week
March 06, 2018 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After picking up two wins over #11 Alabama, Gabbie Plain was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA DI National Pitcher of the Week Tuesday. Plain is the second Husky to be honored as a National Player of the Week this year, with Kirstyn Thomas picking up ESPNW Player of the Week honors after the season's first week.
Plain is in the midst of a 16.0-inning scoreless streak, her second 10+ inning shutout streak of her freshman year. The Australian became the first Husky freshman since Kasey Stanchek in 2012 to start their career 7-0 with her two wins this weekend. She allowed only three hits in three appearances at the Husky Classic, striking out 11 batters and walking only two. This season, Plain has allowed only one extra-base hit and has allowed more than two hits in a single appearance just twice.
Plain is the first Husky pitcher to be honored by the NFCA's weekly awards since Taran Alvelo last season. She becomes the fifth Husky in program history to be so honored by the NFCA.
Washington hits the road for its last non-conference tournament this weekend, heading to Las Vegas for the Rebel Classic. Washington will play New Mexico State on Friday, March 9 at 1:30 pm in its first game of the tournament.
