SEATTLE – The 14th ranked University of Washington women's golf team will continue its spring season as it heads to the second annual Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational hosted at the El Tigre Golf Club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The two-day tournament starts on Friday, March 16 with 36 holes followed by a final round of 18 on Saturday, March 17.
The 12-team field includes (Golfstat Rankings): Iowa, Wisconsin (29), Indiana, New Mexico State, Kennesaw State (46), Washington (14), Arizona (16), New Mexico, San Diego State (45), Idaho, Grand Canyon, and Chattanooga.
UW will send junior Sarah Rhee, freshman Rino Sasaki, sophomore Karen Miyamoto, junior Julianne Alvarez and junior Wenyung Keh.
The Huskies are coming off of a team victory in their last tournament as they won the Meadow Club Collegiate at the beginning of March. UW finished with a 3-under 573 (283-290) in the weather shortened event. Due to heavy frost, the team only played 36 holes. Washington placed all five student-athletes in the top 25 led by sophomore Karen Miyamoto and junior Julianne Alvarez both tied for tired, junior Rhee finished tied for sixth, freshman Sasaki placed tied for 13th while Keh tied for 24th.
Washington claimed the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational last season in its inaugural year as it posted its best round by 15 strokes over the final 18 holes. It was the first spring tournament title for the Huskies in 2016-17 and UW placed three in the top 10. Highlights from the event included Wenyung Keh's two eagles in a span of five holes on the final day to help her jump 29 spots on the leaderboard.
