Bajema Named AVCA All-American
December 12, 2018 | Volleyball
SEATTLE โ Junior Kara Bajema joins select company as she earned a place on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team this morning. Bajema was named a Third Team All-American, her first time earning the honor and the seventeenth consecutive season that Washington has had an All-American on the first, second, or third teams.
ย
Earning AVCA All-America honors is the peak achievement for a collegiate volleyball player. The organization selects 14-players to the first team, second team, and third team, plus additional honorable mentions.
ย
Bajema, an outside hitter from Lynden, Wash., was previously named to the All-Pac-12 Team and the AVCA Pacific North All-Region Team.
ย
In her first season as a six-rotation player, Bajema led the Huskies with 475 kills, a 3.86 kills per set average. That ranks her sixth in the Pac-12. Bajema was also a primary passer for the first time this season, receiving the most opposing serves by more than three hundred. She also ranked second on the team with a career-high 2.71 digs per set and added 0.20 aces per set and 0.45 blocks per set.
ย
Bajema's 475 kills are the most by a Husky since 2014 and were just two kills away from 10th-most in UW single season history. Her 533.5 points are ninth-most in a single season and also the most since 2014.
ย
Washington finished up its season last Friday in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships, the sixth time in the past seven years they have advanced at least that far.
