Burr-Kirven Named Second-Team Academic All-America
December 10, 2018 | Football
Honors continue to flow in for Washington linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven, who has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I football second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Burr-Kirven, who was named Associated Press All-America first team earlier on Monday, is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 selection, as well as a three-time, first-team Academic All-Pac-12 honoree. As true freshmen are not eligible for either, he won each the maximum number of times. In 2018, the senior linebacker from Menlo Park, Calif., was named the Pac-12's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football and also the Pac-12 Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year, making him the first football player ever to win scholar-athlete of the year and player of the year (either offense or defense).
A comparative literature (cinema studies) major with a 3.69 cumulative grade point average, Burr-Kirven is just the second Husky to earn first- or second-team Academic All-America in the last 22 seasons.
