Huskies Win Seven Matches on First Day of ASU Thunderbird

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Washington women's tennis team completed the first day of action at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Friday winning seven out of 11 matches.
The Dawgs started off strong in the final fall tournament of the season as UW won five out of seven singles matches as well as winning a pair of doubles matches. The Huskies matched up against ASU, Kansas and Kansas State in singles matches while also playing doubles matches against Cal, Kansas State and San Diego.
Senior Stacey Fung rallied back from a one set deficit to took down Slaysman from ASU 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in her first match of the tournament. Senior Kenadi Hance was victorious against Hampton of ASU 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-4.
Freshman Nika Zupancic improved her fall singles record to 8-2 after beating Klanacek from ASU in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Junior Natsuho Arakawa fell to Kolarova from ASU 4-6, 2-6.
Sophomore Vanessa Wong made easy work of Decker from Kansas State winning 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Delara Zamani battled back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Deming from Kansas. Junior Katarina Kopcalic lost to Turco from Kansas State 0-6, 4-6.
In doubles action Hance and Arakawa playing in their first match together in the fall beat Nelson and Zeynel from Cal 7-5. Wong and Kopcalic took down Mesquita and Linares from Kansas State 7-5.
Fung and Zupancic fell to Stoukalova and Mraz from Cal 2-6 in their first doubles match of the invitational. Zamani playing with Gheorghita from Kansas State lost to Colling and Torres from San Diego 3-6.
