Huskies Continue Strong Play at ASU Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Washington women's tennis team finished the second day of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday. The Huskies won four singles and three doubles matches and won seven out of 11 matches for the second consecutive day.Β
In singles play, junior Katarina Kopcalic took down Ponomareva from Kansas State 6-1, 7-6 (6). Junior Natsuho Arakawa won against Patiuk from Michigan 6-1, 7-5.
Senior Kenadi Hance won her second match in as many days by beating Sella from Texas Tech 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Nika Zupancic also won her second consecutive match, beating Jones from Texas Tech 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Vanessa Wong won the first set in her match against Linares from Kansas State but dropped the next two to fall 6-2, 2-6, 4-6. Senior Stacey Fung lost to Stocia from Texas Tech 4-6, 3-6. Freshman Delara Zamani was defeated by Miller from Texas Tech 5-7, 6-7(4).
In doubles action, Fung and Zupancic beat Anderson and Tyrina from San Diego 7-5. Hance and Zamani took down Colling and Torres from USD 7-5.
Wong and Kopcalic beat Craciun and Jones from Michigan 7-5. Arakawa playing alongside Gheorghita from Kansas State lost to Koester and Alicea from ASU 4-6.
