NCAA Confirms, Huskies Headed For Nationals
November 10, 2018 | Cross Country
SEATTLE – Washington is one of twenty schools to qualify both its men's and women's cross country teams for the NCAA Championships, as the full fields were announced today during the selection show on NCAA.com. Nationals will take place one week from today, on Nov. 17, in Madison, Wisc.
The Husky men's team was assured of a bid after taking second in the West Regional Championships yesterday at Sacramento. The women also had no doubt they were in after taking fourth at West Regionals, but the announcement of the at-large selections today confirmed it.
This is the 12th consecutive year of qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the UW women and the 20th in the past 22 seasons. The men will be making a second-straight trip, and their fourth in the past five years. Both Husky squads are in their first year under new direction, as Maurica Powell leads the women and Andy Powell coaches the men.
Last year at NCAAs, the women finished 21st and the men were 22nd.
Yesterday at West Regionals, six Dawgs earned All-West Region honors for top-25 finishes. Katie Rainsberger (9th) and Allie Schadler (21st) earned the honor for the women, while the men had Tanner Anderson (4th), Talon Hull (12th), Fred Huxham (17th), and Tibebu Proctor (24th) picking up medals.
