GymDawgs Start The Season With Road Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. β In the first meet of 2018, the #15 Washington GymDawgs put together a 195.350 score, good for the team win over Sacramento State.Β Hailey Burleson won the all-around with a 39.275, while Evanni Roberson, competing in all-around for the first time at UW, took second with a 39.100.Β In all, the GymDawgs had five scores over 9.8 in the first meet of the season.
"I'm very proud of the team," said Head Coach Elise Ray.Β "Our goal was to not treat the first meet like a first meet and I was proud of the way they competed with poise.Β Of course there were a few jitters, so it's nice to have those out of the way.Β We're really excited to have another opportunity on Sunday!"
The GymDawgs finished with at least the top two scores in three of the four events on the night.Β Washington swept vault's top three thanks to Burleson (9.875), Haley Roy (9.800), and Roberson (9.775).Β Burleson would end the night with top-two finish in three of the four events, with the high score for the GymDawgs on vault, bars, and beam.
Madison Copiak was just behind Burleson on beam with an excellent routine of her own, putting up a 9.850 that was a new personal best.Β On floor, Roberson (9.825) and Maya Washington (9.775) had the top scores of the night for all competitors.

Vault, 48.900 β Burleson had a 9.875 for the GymDawgs, leading the way with the highest score of the meet.Β Roy and Roberson had the second- and third-highest scores of either team on vault, with a 9.800 and a 9.775, respectively.Β Kristyn Hoffa also had a 9.750.
Bars, 48.625 β Burleson was the top scorer for Washington on bars as well with a 9.775.Β The trio of Roberson, Michaela Nelson, and Monica Riley all had scores of 9.725.
Beam, 49.000 β Burleson and Copiak excelled on the beam to lead the entire meet.Β Burleson had a 9.875 while Copiak's 9.850 put them on top. Roberson had a 9.775 on beam, while Zoey Schaefer and Maya Washington each hit 9.750 on the dot.
Floor, 48.825 β Roberson's score of 9.825 was tops in the meet, giving the sophomore two top-three finishes.Β Maya Washington had a 9.775 on her first floor routine of the year.Β Burleson and Zoey Schaefer came in right behind her with scores of 9.750.

The GymDawgs will be back in action later this weekend as they take part in the Elevate the Stage meet in Reno, Nevada on Sunday at 2:20 pm.Β That meet will also feature Utah, UCLA, and Stanford and will be streamed live on FloGymnastics.com.
