Men's 8,000-meters - 10:00 am
Women's 6,000-meters - 11:00 am
SEATTLE - Washington's cross country squads will get an early glimpse at how they stack up against some of the Pac-12 and NCAA best this Friday as the Bill Dellinger Invitational assembles a small but very strong field in Springfield, Oregon. Running for the first time since their season-opening Sundodger Invite wins, the Huskies will go up against top-10 squads from Stanford and Oregon as well as ranked Portland and BYU teams.
In addition to the top competition, the Huskies will get to take a run on the course that will host the Pac-12 Championships in just a month's time. The Springfield Golf Club provides the setting for Friday's races, with the men's 8,000-meter run starting at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 6,000-meters at 11 a.m.
The men's race features second-ranked Stanford, sixth-ranked BYU, eighth-ranked Oregon, and 18th-ranked Portland, as well as squads from Cal Poly, Gonzaga, Idaho, and UC Santa Barbara. The 11th-ranked Husky women's team will face the second-ranked Ducks as well as the fifth-ranked Cardinal and No. 19 BYU, along with the same set of contenders as the men's race, plus another Pac-12 foe in Oregon State. Not all teams may be putting their top lineups on the starting line come Friday, but the Huskies will race a large group on both sides, with their postseason top-seven likely to be found somewhere in the group at the Dellinger.
The Huskies will have 12 women in uniform on Friday and 14 men in uniform, many of whom will be suiting up for the first time in their collegiate cross country careers. For the women, freshmen Camila David-Smith, Kiera Marshall, Erica Schroeder and Hannah Waskom are set to race attached for the first time, joining Allie Schadler who ran attached at the Sundodger. On the men's side, freshmen Talon Hull and Tibebu Proctor will race in uniform after their impressive Sundodger debuts.
Sundodger individual champions Amy-Eloise Neale and Johnathan Stevens will look to lead each Husky group. The women will also run Izzi Batt-Doyle, Emily Hamlin, Grace Hodge, Anna Maxwell, Kaitlyn Neal, and Nikki Zielinski. Debuting for the first time his fall will be Colby Gilbert and Andrew Gardner, joining the Sundodger group that included Charlie Barringer, Nate Beamer, Julius Diehr, Ryan Gregory, Nick Laccinole, Mahmoud Moussa, Andy Snyder, and David Strome. Redshirt freshman Gavin Parpart is also set to run in uniform for the first time.
The last time the Huskies raced at the Dellinger Invite was 2013, and the Husky women's team came away with its first ever Dellinger win that year. Amy-Eloise Neale, just a freshman then, led the Huskies with a third-place individual finish. The men tied for third that year, with former All-American Aaron Nelson getting the victory, the biggest of his career to that point.
