Dawgs Abroad Day 9: Sidetrip To Austria
June 21, 2017 | Volleyball
From June 11 until June 24, Washington Volleyball is in search of competition and culture in four different countries in Europe. The Huskies are on their first foreign adventure since 2013, joined by many family members and donors, to share in a once in a lifetime experience outside of their comfort zones. Arriving in Milan, Italy on June 12, the Dawgs have visited Lake Como and Venice before leaving Italy for Croatia (Umag and Rovinj) and then on to Slovenia (Ljubljana, Maribor and Bled) with an additional side trip to Graz, Austria, returning to Seattle on June 24. During the trip, the Huskies are scheduled to play seven matches against a mixture of senior national teams, junior national teams, and professional club teams.
While abroad, Husky players will be blogging about their experiences each day here on GoHuskies.com.
Day 1: Travel & Milan | Day 2: More Milan And A Match | Day 3: Lake Como And Match 2 | Day 4: Milan Farewell
Day 5: Venice | Day 6: On To Croatia | Day 7: Four Cities, One Day | Day 8: Up And Down Mountains
Senior outside hitter Crissy Jones recaps a side trip to Graz, Austria, the fourth country of the tour.
Hi, Husky Fans,
Today we went to Graz, Austria. Our day began with breakfast at the hotel, and then an hour bus ride to the city. Upon arrival, there was a group of people who went to a castle, and another group that went straight to shopping. I stayed with the shopping group. We went to H&M, lush and Zara. We then had lunch at McDonald's. I know you may be wondering why we would go to a McDonald's when we are in a foreign country. The reason is because McDonald's in Europe Is completely different from how it is in the States. I was able to build my own chicken burger and they even had vegetarian burger options. They had sides like mozzarella sticks, fried shrimp, and curly fries. They also had a separate "Mcafe" that sold things like cheesecake, cupcakes, muffins, coffee and other goods.
When we got back to the hotel, we spent the day by the pool. Most of us swam while others sat in the sun and read books. Our hotel sits on a mountain, so we had a nice view of the city below and the greenery around us. Overall, it was an off day well spent.
