
Husky Legend George Irvine Passes Away at Age 69

The University of Washington was saddened to hear of the passing of Pac-12 Hall of Honor inductee, UW Basketball star and Seattle legend George Irvine at the age of 69.
Following his high school career in Ballard, Irvine played for Huskies from 1967-70 and went on to finish with the 23rd most points in UW history (1,314), the fifth-best shooting percentage (55.8 percent) and the seventh-best career scoring average (16.8).
While he was team captain as both a junior and senior, Irvine led the team in scoring averaging 15.6 and 20.0 ppg, respectively. He also led the team in rebounding as a sophomore (7.6) and junior (7.5).
Irvine earned First Team All-Pac-8 honors as a senior and went on to be inducted into the Pac-12 Hall of Honor in in 2012.
He was drafted in 1970 and after retiring in 1977, embarked on a 25-year career in the NBA working as an assistant coach, head coach and vice president of basketball.
