Jensen Finishes Seventh In Pac-12 Decathlon
May 07, 2017 | Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Washington will have a couple points on the board next week when the Pac-12 Championships get underway in Eugene, thanks to Cole Jensen, who finished seventh in the decathlon today at the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships, hosted by Oregon State.
After a strong day one had him well-positioned in third-place, Jensen started day two off in impressive fashion as he went 14.95 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, just slightly wind-aided but the fastest time of his career nonetheless. However, his shot at a career day and challenging for the top-three was derailed at the seventh event, when he had three fouls in the discus throw. With only eight competitors, Jensen knew he could still score points for the Huskies if he continued on with the competition, so he moved on to the pole vault. He cleared 14-9 in the pole vault, but came back and had a new PR in the javelin, throwing 132-9. In the final 1,500-meter run, Jensen was fifth in 4:49.84, less than a second off his PR.
All told, Jensen scored 6,577 points. If he had thrown the same discus mark today as he had last time out at the Mt. SAC Relays, he would have been over 7,000 points once again and finished fifth.
The 2017 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships continue next Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14, at Hayward Field in Eugene.
For the first time in history, the final day of the Championships will be broadcast live. Coverage of the event will air on Sunday, May 14 starting at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT across Pac-12 Network, all regional channels and Pac-12 Now.
