
Pereira, Yuan Earn PING All-West Region Honors

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Senior Corey Pereira and sophomore Carl Yuan of the University of Washington men's golf team were two of 26 student-athletes named to the PING All-West Region team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
With the selection, Pereira and Yuan garner all-region awards for the second consecutive season and are now eligible for GCAA All-America consideration next month. Pereira has garnered all-region accolades for the fourth time in his career, while Yuan earns the honor for the second time.
In all, a total of 14 schools were represented in the West, while 154 players overall were honored across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West.
Pereira, an All-Pac-12 second team selection, led the team with three top-5, six top-10 and eight top-20 finishes and his 71.69 scoring average was second-best on the squad. The Cameron Park, Calif. native also topped the squad with nine rounds in the 60s. Pereira earned his fourth career win this season at the Querencia Collegiate and was Washington's top individual at the NCAA Sammamish Regional, recording a team-best 68 over the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for 11th place.
Yuan, an All-Pac-12 second team honoree, led the team with a 71.57 scoring average this season. The Orlando, Fla. native concluded his sophomore season with six top-20, two top-10 and one top-5 finishes. Yuan led the team with a tie for fourth place finish in the Pac-12 Championships.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Alan Murray, Washington ended the 2016-17 season by appearing the regional tournament, posting a seventh-place finish at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Washington.
