Get To Know Your Rising Seniors: Dominique Bond-Flasza
May 02, 2017 | Women's Soccer
This spring, we asked each of our rising seniors a few questions in order to get to know them a little better. We spoke with Dominique Bond-Flasza today, who joined the program from Laguna Niguel, Calif. where she attended Aliso Niguel High School. The defender has recorded two goals and five assists during her career, and hit a game-winner at Tennessee this past fall before assisting Pascale Dumesnil on a game-winner over No. 13 Santa Clara in the 87th minute.
What would you do on a free Saturday here around the city?
On a free Saturday I'll usually go to the farmer's market in the morning to either grab breakfast or lunch and then check to see if there are any UW athletic competitions that are happening. If there aren't competitions that day I'll usually just hang out with friends and teammates.
Where is your favorite place to eat here in Seattle and why?
My favorite place to eat in Seattle is Healthy Bonez. It's an acai food truck that we found freshman year that, whenever we have the morning off from practice, we end up at (except Sundays since they're closed).
What is your major?
I am majoring in business administration with a focus in accounting.
What has been your favorite part about living the college life?
My favorite part about living the college life would be getting to try new experiences and meeting new people. I've also become much more self-reliant these last three years which I credit to college.
Least favorite?
My least favorite part is not being able to see my family whenever I want.
If you could matchup with anyone in the world for a PK right now just for fun, who would it be and why?
If I could matchup against anyone for a PK just for fun I would choose Gianluigi Buffon, I consider him to be the best goalkeeper of all time.
What has been your most memorable athletic event you've been to at UW and why?
The most memorable athletic event that I witnessed at UW (I actually wasn't there physically) was watching golf as they competed for a national title in Conibear. It was super cool to see all the other athletes in Conibear so invested and supportive of the women's golf team and as they won the title the whole dining hall erupted in cheers.
Compared to your expectations you had when you first arrived on campus, what has been the most surprising thing about your time at Washington to you?
The thing that I was most shocked by was how radically different college is than high school in one simple way: how you spend your time. In high school, you have 8 hours of class time and 3 hours of homework, and in college, it is the reverse. Once I figured out a way to structure and manage my time outside the classroom my stress levels decreased.
Amy is in goal and Lesle is shooting on a PK or free kick, who comes out on top?
I think that Amy would save the initial shot, but Lesle would put away her rebound.
What is the most crucial thing you've learned on the soccer field since you've been here?
The importance of team chemistry off the field greatly contributes to the success and performance of the team on the field.
What do you want to do once you graduate?
Initially after graduating I want to try to play professionally for a few years and then after, or while playing, get my master's degree in accounting and prepare for the CPA exam.
If you could go back in time, what is one piece of advice you would give to yourself as an incoming freshman?
Pain is only temporary and while some of the workouts may seem tough now, they will have a large impact in the future.
